English rock band Led Zeppelin led a new era of rock. Formed in London in 1968, the group included guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones, drummer John Bonham, and singer Robert Plant. The band’s guitar-driven style in the early years of heavy metal made them a true original.

Led Zeppelin’s 1975 tour was fraught with issues. It started after the longest break the band had taken between concerts, and some critics panned the performances as rusty. Page broke his ring finger on the European leg of the tour, and Plant contracted influenza – which affected his legendary voice. The last leg of the tour was cancelled after Plant had a serious car accident in Greece. The band recorded the album Presence during his recovery instead of continuing to tour. Zeppelin defied their critics and soared to superstardom, with all nine of their studio albums landing in the top ten of the Billboard charts. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 and endures as one of the greatest rock bands of all time.
